1. Who we are
Manna is a Bible verse memorization app built and operated by an independent solo developer ("we", "us", or "Manna"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Manna iOS app, how we use it, and the rights you have over your data.

2. Information we collect
We try to collect as little as possible. Here's everything we do collect:
Anonymous user ID
- A random identifier generated on your device the first time you open the app. We never ask for your name, email, or phone number. The ID is used to tie your synced practice data, your subscription status, and crash reports to a single anonymous user. The ID is stored in your iCloud Keychain so the same identity follows you to your other Apple devices.
Practice data
- Your lessons completed, streaks, XP, saved verses, onboarding selections (goals, daily target, preferred translation), and optional display name are stored on your device and also mirrored to our server as a backup. Every row is tied only to your anonymous user ID. We never see your name, email, or any real identity.
Device information
- Device model, iOS version, and app version. Used to keep the app working across phones and to diagnose crashes.
Subscription status
- Whether you're on a free or paid plan, and whether your subscription is active, in a trial, expired, or refunded. Apple processes the actual payment through its in-app purchase system. We never see your card details, billing address, or Apple ID.
Push notification tokens
- An anonymous device token issued by Apple that lets us send you daily verse reminders. You can disable notifications at any time in iOS Settings and we'll stop sending them.
What we do NOT collect
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or contacts.
- We do not collect health data, location, browsing history, or anything outside the app.
- We do not access your microphone audio off-device. Speech recognition for the Speak exercise runs entirely on your phone.
- We do not show ads inside the app.
- We do not run third-party analytics, behavioral tracking, or advertising SDKs.
3. How the Bible content works
The full Bible text (KJV, WEB, and ASV, all public domain) is bundled inside the app at install time. When you open a verse, the app reads it from local storage. No network call is made and we have no record of what you read.
4. Third-party services
We use a small number of trusted services to run Manna. Each one only receives the data it needs to do its job:
- Railway hosts our Postgres database in the United States. Your synced practice data lives there, attached only to your anonymous user ID. Connections are encrypted in transit.
- RevenueCat manages subscription status on our behalf. They receive your anonymous user ID and your Apple subscription receipt so the app knows whether you're a paid user. Their privacy policy applies to that flow.
- Apple in-app purchases. Apple processes Manna subscription payments through the App Store. They handle your payment details and tell us only your subscription status (active, in trial, expired, refunded). We never receive card information, billing addresses, or your Apple ID.
- iCloud Keychain (Apple). Your anonymous user ID is stored in your iCloud Keychain so the same identity is available on your other Apple devices signed into the same Apple ID. We never see your Apple ID or iCloud credentials.
We do not sell your data to anyone, and we do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or any party not listed above.
5. How we use your information
- To run your Manna account and remember your progress.
- To keep a backup copy of your progress on our server.
- To deliver daily verse reminders if you've enabled notifications.
- To know whether you're on a free or paid plan.
- To respond to support requests and keep the app working.
6. Your rights
No matter where you live, you have the right to:
- Access the data we have about you.
- Delete your account and all associated data.
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@vladgershun.com. If you live in the EU, UK, California, or anywhere else with specific privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, and similar), we honor those rights for everyone, not just users in those regions.
7. Data retention & deletion
Tapping "Delete Account" inside the app wipes every trace of your practice from both your device and our server: lessons, streaks, saved verses, XP, onboarding selections, optional display name, and notification preferences. The server deletion happens first, and only succeeds when every row tied to your anonymous user ID has been removed from our database.
Your anonymous user ID itself stays in your iCloud Keychain so any future subscription events stay attached to the same anonymous identity. If you also want the ID rotated, uninstall the app and remove the Manna entry from iCloud Keychain in iOS Settings, or email us and we'll walk you through it.
8. Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures: encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) for everything in transit, encrypted storage at rest, and strict access controls. No system is perfect, but we take security seriously and respond quickly to any issue we discover.
9. Changes to this policy
If we update this policy, we'll change the effective date at the top and, for material changes, notify you in the app before the changes take effect. Continuing to use Manna after an update means you accept the new policy.
